Atkins Events and Tournaments

JSM Challenger

This $50,000 professional tournament has taken place at Atkins since 1996. Top players from around the world including James Blake, Mardy Fish, Robby Ginepri, Mario Ancic, and the Bryan brothers have all played on the home courts of the Fighting Illini. The tournament also gives current and former Illinois Tennis men’s players a taste of competition at the professional ranks. In 2006, former Illini and NCAA Singles Champion, Amer Delic, became the first Illini player to capture the singles title in Champaign-Urbana. Rajeev Ram has captured 3 doubles titles in 2003, 2004, and 2006 with different partners each time. MSITA District Qualifier- May 31-June 4, 2013

This is a USTA sanctioned event for competitive junior players from Central and Southern Illinois. The tournament features multiple age divisions including: BG 18s, 16s, 14s, and 12s. Players have the opportunity to qualify for the Midwest Closed Tournament held in Indianapolis in June. Marian Wood Baird Cup- June 14-16, 2013

Top junior girls from around the Midwest compete for their district in a team competition. Current and former Illinois players have represented their district as well as many Atkins players have represented the Mid-South district.

 

USTA Boys 18 Team Nationals- July 27-30, 2013

The nation’s top junior boys face off in an intense team competition representing their USTA sections. Many current and former Illinois players have represented their home section. This is the last stop for most players before heading to Kalamazoo for the Super National Hard Court Championships.

 

Car-X $1,500 Men’s Open: December 2013

For the third straight year, Atkins will host a USTA Sanctioned Men’s Open tournament featuring $1,500 in prize money. The tournament will feature a full feed-in consolation draw (8-game pro-set in back draw) with the winner taking home $1,000 and the finalist and consolation winner earning $250 each.

 

Keegan Bannon Memorial Open - December 2013

This is a USTA sanctioned junior singles tournament for girls and boys who have competitive experience. The tournament features three age divisions: 16 & under, 14 & under, and 12 & under. Juniors from around the USTA Midwest Section compete in tournaments like the Keegan Bannon Memorial Open to improve their USTA tournament ranking. The tournament is named in honor of Keegan Bannon who was an outstanding junior clinic programs, and who attended Champaign School.
