Steve GreeneJ. Steven Greene

Associate Athletic Director for Resource Development

Serving in his twentieth year with the Office of Athletic Development, Steve Greene (Illinois '76) manages the Office of Athletic Development, supervising a professional development staff of eight and a support staff of five.  Additionally, he is responsible for supervising the Athletic Ticket Office. As Associate Athletic Director for Resource Development, he is responsible for revenue streams including annual I FUND donations, the Illini Visionaries endowment program, capital gift campaigns, Premium Seating leases, and ticket sales.

During his twenty years with the department, Steve spent the early 90’s on the Urbana-Champaign campus raising funds for the I FUND before moving to Chicago in 1994 to run the Chicago satellite office, where he spent 13 years. While in Chicago, Steve performed fundraising and public relation functions on behalf of the department throughout the state of Illinois, as well as the east coast in New York, Washington, D.C., and the west coast of Florida. In addition, he served as coordinator of the major gifts program and the capital campaign, with priorities for enhancing facilities, increasing endowment and I FUND revenues for scholarships and academic services, and developing investment by donors through wills and other methods of planned giving. Returning to campus in 2007, he continued to coordinate major gift and capital campaigns for DIA, while also serving as the DIA and campus liaison for development of the Big Ten Network.

Prior to joining the DIA, Greene spent 10 years with the United Way in Decatur, IL. and Findlay, OH, where he last served as Chief Professional Officer for the United Way of Hancock County from 1987-1991. A standout fullback on the Illinois football team from 1972-75, Greene was a four year letter winner under head coach Bob Blackman. He finished his career at Illinois with 25 career starts and ranks 25th on the list of all-time leading rushers with 1,228 yards. Steve and his wife, Kay, have four children, Courtney, Lindsey, Clayton, and Ainsley.
